Our Story

HOPE SOCIETY was formed in 2019 by Manoj Buddika and a group of friends who wanted to turn compassion into action. What began as a small effort to bring fruit and dry food to patients in the cancer ward of Kandy Hospital on Valentine’s Day has grown into an ongoing mission to support people in need with love, dignity, and hope.

Today, our volunteers continue to reach out to cancer patients and families facing hardship, offering not only food, but also presence, encouragement, and a reminder that their community cares.

Valentine’s Day Cancer Ward Donations

Every Valentine’s Day, HOPE SOCIETY visits the cancer ward of Kandy Hospital with donations of fresh fruits and dry food. For many patients and families, it is a moment of encouragement in the middle of treatment and worry.

We bring not only food, but also messages of love and hope to patients and families. Volunteers share kind words, listen, and remind each person that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Dry Food Relief for Affected People

Beyond Valentine’s Day, HOPE SOCIETY collects and distributes dry food such as rice, grains, lentils, and canned goods to people affected by economic hardship, illness, and emergencies.

Donations are used directly to purchase and distribute these goods. Every package is given with respect and care, so that families feel supported rather than judged.

Future Plans

As we grow, we hope to:

Extend support to more wards within Kandy Hospital and surrounding hospitals.
Reach additional families in nearby villages facing long-term illness or economic hardship.
Organize regular community donation drives to sustain year-round support.
